A person has died in a road traffic collision in Finsbury Park.

Officers were called at about 1.20pm on to reports of an HGV in collision with a pedestrian in Seven Sisters Road.

Police, paramedics and the London Fire Brigade are at the scene, were a man in his 70s has been pronounced dead.

Road closures are in place on Seven Sisters Road around the junction of Wilberforce Road. The lorry stopped at the scene.

Calvert "Cally" Delpesche of Jonnies Barbers told the Gazette: "I heard a lady screaming from outside and then saw this lorry with a machine on top of it stop. I went to look. We were in shock. There was a man underneath lying in a stick position. It was so horrible." Calvert believes the man may have been in his 50s, but police are yet to confirm an age.

Another witness, who gave her name as Lee, said: "I was in my Uber approaching Finsbury Park, as we got closer I saw him lying there underneath the van. I was in absolute shock. I heard people screaming but it felt like I was in complete silence. I had goose bumps. It was so traumatising."

Lorraine Pearson said: "I just heard loads of police going up and down, so we came out on the balcony to see what was going on. It looks like someone's died. They have blue tarpaulin over the road."

She said the collision occurred in the almost "identical" spot to an accident yesterday morning, when a car driver hit a pedestrian on the other side of the road at about 8.30am. The man was taken to hospital with head injuries but police later said they weren't life-threatening.

No arrests have been made in either incident.

On Saturday a hit-and-run driver collided with a cyclist in Fieldway Crescent at about 10.30pm and left her lying in the road with head injuries. Hours later, another hit-and-run driver is alleged to have deliberately mounted the pavement and rammed into someone he'd had any earlier altercation without outside Highbury & Islington Station.

A motorcyclist also died feet from today's fatal crash scene when he was thrown from his bike and it went up in flames near the Finsbury Park gates on July 3.

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact police on 101 and quote CAD 3634/24Sept.
