The youngsters, aged 15, 16 and 18, were hunting the virtual monsters in Whittington Park at about 10.30pm on Tuesday when they were confronted by three masked thugs.

One of them pointed a handgun at the group and demanded their phones. After handing them over, the three boys left the park unharmed.

Police believe the gang were behind a robbery in the same park half an hour earlier, when a 24-year-old man had a silver handgun pressed into his stomach.

The man handed over his possessions and was told to turn around and walk away, which he did.

The attackers are all described as Asian and 16 or 17.

One was 5ft 6ins tall and referred to as “Kushi”. He was wearing a black zip-up jumper, black trousers and had a black bandana covering his face.

Another was wearing a dark grey puffer jacket and the third was wearing a black zip-up jumper, black “North Face” gillet, and dark trousers.

Investigating officer PC Kevin Yeung from Islington said: “These were really shocking attacks on young people walking around a much loved park.

“Were you in the area? Did you see anything?

“My team are keen to hear from anyone who can help lead us to the culprits. Robberies where a gun is shown or indicated are very rare and we are keen to apprehend those involved as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information should call Islington CID on 020 8345 0262 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
