FOOTBALL fans attending Wednesday night’s FA Cup replay between Leeds United and Arsenal are being urged to arrive at Elland Road early to avoid missing the action.

A 40,000 capacity crowd is expected for the match, which starts at 8pm, and major roadworks on the motorways and routes around the ground have meant fans attending other high-profile fixtures have not arrived in time.

The turnstiles open at 6.30pm and a special bus service will offer return trips from the city centre directly to Elland Road for a small fee. Licensed bars will be open inside the stands within the ground.

Chief Superintendent Mark Milsom, match commander for the fixture, said: “Wednesday’s match has all the hallmarks of a cracking cup tie, and the last thing we want is a replay of previous problems at major fixtures where the extra congestion on the roads and the roadworks have led to some fans missing much of the first half.

“If you’re travelling to the match by car please allow extra time, and if you’re using public transport it’s a good idea to use the special service running from the city centre to the ground to arrive early.”
