Police stormed into Finsbury Park station this morning after reports of a man brandishing a Samurai sword on a train – but it turned out to be a harmless festival goer in fancy dress.
Armed units were on stand by from about 9.20am when a man was seen with what appeared to be a long Japanese blade, but despite a police search nothing was found.
British Transport Police then stopped a suspect in Stevenage, only to find it was a wooden replica and part of a costume he was wearing for the Secret Garden Party festival, which takes place in Huntingdon this weekend.
He was allowed to go on his way without charge.
Adam Sluggett, 34, who is also going heading to Secret Garden Party said: “That seems a bit of an overreaction, but I suppose the police have to make sure.
“The theme of the festival this year is standing on ceremony – so I guess that’s why he was dressed as a samurai. I am going as a Spartan warrior so I hope the police don’t give me any grief.”
