Proposals for new homes on Clerkenwell mail site
PUBLISHED: 18:33 04 November 2011
Plans to create several hundred homes on a Royal Mail site have been revealed.
Islington and Camden councils could build on the Mount Pleasant sorting office estate in Farringdon Road, Clerkenwell.
Royal Mail is handing over land which is no longer needed for mail operations.
Cllr Paul Convery, Islington Council’s executive member for planning, regeneration and transport, said: “This will include a number of affordable homes on a site which is presently an eyesore and only used for car parking.”
The Mount Pleasant Crown Post Office and the British Postal Museum and Archive will stay onsite.
An exhibition of the plans will be in Finsbury Library, St John Street, Finsbury, from November 15 to December 5.
Events are also planned for three days from November 10 in the Church of Our Most Holy Redeemer, Exmouth Market, Clerkenwell.
