Arsenal hosted London rivals West Ham at the Emirates on Saturday. Read on for Layth Yousif’s PLAYER RATINGS

Arsenal:

Petr Cech: 7 - The experienced keeper is certainly trying to buy into Emery’s ethos, and again pulled off a number of vital blocks and saves but he is not the man to take the head coach’s plans forward in the long term.

Hector Bellerin: 7 - Involved in the Gunners first half goal when he drove forward with pace prior to Monreal firing home. Still needs to work on his defensive discipline.

Sokratis: 6 - The jury is very much out on the former Borussia Dortmund centre-half.

Shkodran Mustafi: 6 - Jittery at times.

Nacho Monreal: 7 - Carried over his excellent scoring run from last season as he fired home the first goal of the new era at Emery’s Emirates

Matteo Guendouzi: 7 - Industrious and enthusiastic. Worked hard in destroying embryonic West Ham attacks and combined well with more attacking colleagues when feeding them the ball. A huge future awaits for the former Lorient youngster who always shows a great attitude if he keeps progressing

Granit Xhaka: 6 - Involved in a battle with Snodgrass but not dynamic enough to be a box-to-box midfielder, nor creative enough to be an attacking force, or disciplined enough to play as a defensive midfielder. Will soon be replaced by Lucas Torreira. Some will say it’s not a day too soon.

Aaron Ramsey: 6.5 - Thought he had made an immediate goalscoring return for the Gunners but his early header was ruled out for offside. Quiet by his standards.

Alex Iwobi: 7 - Has looked lively under Emery and the way he worked hard to dispossess the returning Wilshere meant he earned the loud cheers coming his way. Replaced at half-time

Henrikh Mkhitaryan: 6.5 - Flitted in and out of the game. As is his wont

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: 7 - Tormented the visiting defence through his pace and movement. Unlucky with a couple of long-range shots in the first half. Earned his ovation late on.

Substitute:

Alex Lacazette: 7 - On for Iwobi during the break. Involved in the goal.

Lucas Torreira: 7 - On for Guendouzi early in the second half

Danny Welbeck: 7.5 - Replaced Aubameyang late on to a good reception. Scored to seal the win late on

West Ham:

Lukasz Fabianski: 6.5 - Had a busy game but not as outstanding as he normally is when he returns to the Emirates in opposition colour.

Ryan Fredericks: 7.5 - The 25-year-old former Fulham defender worked hard to combat the threat of Aubameyang.

Fabian Balbuena: 6 - The 27-year-old Paraguayan signed on a three-year deal from Corinthians in the summer was not afraid to play it long when required despite having an excellent technique.

Issa Diop: 4 - Struggled at times to contain the jet-heeled Aubameyang. Rightly booked for fouling the former Dortmund flier in the first half. Scored an own goal to sum up his day.

Arthur Masaku: 6 - Another who struggled with the pace of Aubameyang.

Carlos Sanchez: 6 – Worked hard but was overrun at times.

Jack Wilshere: 6 - As much as the majority of Arsenal fans still like Jack Wilshere that last action summed up exactly why Unai Emery was right to let him go - as the lively Alex Iwobi scampered back to dispossess the former Arsenal man, who looked desperately short of pace

Robert Snodgrass: 7 - Effective out wide when whipping in dangerous crosses for Arnautovic to feed off. Overlapped well and perhaps should have scored when Cech saved from his break moments before half-time.

Felipe Anderson: 7 - Involved in West Ham’s opener. Showed good strength and awareness driving forward before offering finesse with a deft one-two with Arnautovic before the former Stoke striker fired home

Michail Antonio: 6 – Not as influential as he would have liked

Marko Arnautovic: 7.5 - Predators instinct to fire home for the Irons first half goal. Powerful but with excellent technique. Always involved in the match and gave the Arsenal backline trouble at times

Substitutes:

Hernandez: 6.5 - On for Arnautovic early in the second half

Lucas Perez: 7 - Arsenal fans showed their class by applauding the former Gunner when he replaced Antonio

Andriy Yarmolenko: 6 - Replaced the hard-working Snodgrass late on
