Festive sparkle covered Islington on Saturday as the Christmas lights along the streets and the N1 Centre were switched on in unison.

Santa and his helpers dropped into the shopping centre in Parkfield Street for the first of the borough’s light switch-ons and spent the afternoon giving away treats to the many children who flocked to his musical motor sleigh.

Among the gifts were special ‘magical glasses’ to wear for the big switch-on which saw the iconic angel sculpture in the centre illuminated in dazzling lights.

Lynne Glover, centre manager for N1 Centre, said: “It’s always a special occasion for us turning on the Christmas lights, but it makes it even more special when you see hundreds of kids faces all light up with smiles and laughter as they enjoy themselves at N1 Centre.”

The N1 Centre worked in partnership with the Angel Aim business group for the switch on event.
