This year Remembrance Sunday falls on November 14. I should like as many people as possible to join me for the Remembrance Sunday Parade and Inter-Faith Service at the War Memorial on Islington Green.

The Service begins at 10.40am and the two minutes’ silence will be observed at 11am. Afterwards, at 11.40am, there will be a short service at the War Memorial at Spa Green, followed by a Community Remembrance Event at Manor Gardens commencing at 2pm.

For this year’s Poppy Appeal the Royal British Legion is focusing on its support for the Afghan generation of the Armed Forces family and since 2003 has helped more than 10,000 serving, ex-Service and families who are part of the Afghan and Iraq generation.

May I urge your readers to buy a poppy. If readers do not see anyone selling them, they will be on sale in the Town Hall and at 222 Upper Street. If anyone can help by being a poppy seller, please contact the Royal British Legion on 0800 085 5924.
