A FAMILY is still waiting for justice - 10 years after their teenage son was stabbed to death.

Tangor Gokkusu was only 16 when he was killed by a knife wound to the neck just yards from his Finsbury Park home on October 3, 2000.

No motive for the killing was ever established - and no-one has been brought to justice.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Moring, of the Metropolitan Police's Homicide and Specialist Crime Command, said: "It is now 10 years since that fateful day when Tangor lost his life so needlessly, and I believe there are still people in the local community who know who is responsible.

"I am hoping the passage of time will have seen changes in group affiliations and that someone will do the right thing and come forward to enable justice for Tangor's family."

On the day of his death, Tangor got off a southbound 141 bus at the junction of Green Lanes and Brownswood Road, Finsbury Park, at about 5.40pm.

Tangor, who was himself of Turkish Cypriot descent, was confronted by a group of Turkish-looking youths who officers believe had followed him off the bus.

After a brief row, one of the group stabbed him in the neck.

Tangor, who lived nearby in Heron Drive, managed to stagger across the road before collapsing on the pavement.

He was rushed to Homerton Hospital in Hackney but died from his injuries four days later. A post mortem gave the cause of death as a stab wound to the neck.

Tangor, who lived with his aunt, was an avid football fan who loved playing the sport. On the day of his death, he was even wearing a red-and-black Galatasaray football jacket.

While the attackers may have been part of a gang, there was never any suggestion that Tangor himself was involved with gangs.

Seven people were arrested at the time, but they were all subsequently released without action.

Police are now reviewing the forensic evidence and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Anyone who can shed light on the killing should call the Met's inquiry team on 020 8345 4142 or, to remain anonymous, Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
