Cross-country captain Sarah Swinhoe led the London Heathside women’s team to a second-place finish at the London Cross-Country Championships at Parliament Hill Fields on Saturday.
Swinhoe finished fifth out of the 135 ladies in 22 minutes 47 seconds - just six seconds away from a spot on the podium.
She was followed over the 6k course by her team-mate Rebecca Bunting, who was 16th – an impressive feat given that she had already been the first female finisher in the 5k Richmond parkrun earlier in the day.
Heathside’s ‘four-to-score’ team was completed by Sue Rust, who was 23rd in 24:12, and Jackie Wastall, who came 26th in 24:27.
In the men’s race, Tom Aldred finished in fourth place in an extremely strong field of 289 runners. Heathside’s men’s team were a respectable seventh place out of 25 teams.
