A MOPED rider had to be cut free after he crashed the stolen bike he was riding and became trapped under a van yesterday (Monday) afternoon.

The 17-year-old was rushed to hospital by helicopter ambulance after the crash at the junction of Offord Road and Liverpool Road, Islington, at 3.25pm. Both roads were closed along with Ellington Street after the incident, which involved a white van and a blue moped.

The London Ambulance Service and firefighters also attended the scene to help lift the van to get him out from underneath.

The teenage rider is still in hospital undergoing treatment for a fractured rip and injuries to his upper arm and chest.

The moped had earlier been reported stolen from the Holloway area.
