The Postal Museum in Clerkenwell has attracted just under 200,000 visitors in its “truly momentous” first year.
Since the site, in Phoenix Place, first opened its doors last September it has attracted 198,000 people.
The museum houses a Mail Rail underground ride and its management say these trains have completed 9,000 journeys over the past 12 months.
The trains travel through a 100-year-old network of miniature tunnels, which museum bosses say cover a total distance equivalent to a one-way trip to Japan, Brazil or Madagascar.
“It’s truly been a momentous first year for us. Since we opened in full, we have worked tirelessly to find new and engaging ways to deliver the incredible history of human connection through the eyes of the British post,” said Laura Wright, museum chief exec.
“Our first birthday is also a great opportunity to thank the visitors, supporters and staff who have made all of this possible – thank you.”
