The Queen is coming to Islington a week today.

Her Majesty is visiting St Mary’s Church in Upper Street as part of Scripture Union’s 150th anniversary celebrations.

Scripture Union, an evangelical Christian movement, traces its origins to the church in 1867.

The Rev Simon Harvey, vicar of St Mary’s, said: “It’s a privilege to welcome Her Majesty to worship in our church.

“The Queen has a deep Christian faith and her example has inspired many people. Scripture Union is a tremendous global Christian organisation and we’re delighted to welcome them back home to the heart of Islington.”

Children from St Mary’s Primary School, in Fowler Road, will sing to guests at the service, which will be led by Rev Harvey.

BBC Songs of Praise is recording the celebration and will broadcast a special edition of the programme in February. It will be introduced by soprano Katherine Jenkins, who will also attend the service.
