The 16-year-old has been remanded in custody to appear at Highbury Corner Youth Court on February 17 charged with taking and driving away and driving without a license following a collision which killed Joe Walker, 17, in October.

Another boy, 15, from Islington, is on bail awaiting an appearance at Blackfriars Crown Court on February 19 charged with causing death by dangerous driving, failure to stop, causing death whilst uninsured and causing death whilst uninsured.

Earlier a 17-year-old, also from Islington, pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified in connection with the crash – he was sentenced to an 18 month rehabilitation order and disqualified from driving for 12 months at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on January 20.

Joe, a promising young footballer from Stroud Green, was riding a scooter along Seven Sisters Road, near the junction with Moreton Road, Tottenham, when the collision occurred.

He died exactly two months before his friend Henry Hicks, whose funeral took place earlier today.

Rising Arsenal and England star Kaylen Hinds led tributes to Joe following his death.

Mr Hinds, who has scored four goals for England under-18s, said on Twitter: “RIP Joe Walker. We go way back from primary school days and playing with each other at Leyton Orient.”

He added: “Trying to get my head around it, trying to keep strong but it’s hard man. Everyone is going to miss you.”

Tegan Cosgrave, 16, a family friend added: “He was the loveliest boy, always making people laugh.

“He didn’t have a bad bone in his body. I don’t know anyone that could say a bad word about him.

“He was loved by all of his friends.”

Three others have been arrested in connection with the crash; a 15-year-old boy, a 17-year-old and a 23-year-old, who have been bailed until March pending further enquiries.

A shrine of flowers and tributes was set up by Joe’s family and friends at the spot where he was killed.
