A two-year-old girl was killed after a pipe fell from a house in Offord Road, Barnsbury.

Christella Haginikola had been out playing when the full length of the pipe, from the top to the bottom of the five-storey house, fell.

Christella suffered a fractured skull and a rupture of the brain. She died in hospital the next day.

The pipe was badly corroded and not up to modern day standards, an inquest at St Pancras Coroner’s Court heard.

But no charges were brought against the landlord.

Instead, coroner W. Purchase told landlords to keep a “watchful eye” on the state of their properties.

“Skimpy Victorianism is all that can be said of it,” he added, recording a verdict of death from accidental causes.

Mr W. Lewis, deputy district surveyor, said he found it necessary to serve warning notices on other landlords in the vicinity about the state of rainwater pipes.
