More than 2,500 green-minded people in Canonbury set up shop in their gardens to offload unwanted items.

The event was organised by Jumble Trail and Recycle for London to encourage people to reduce waste and recycle.

In total, 42 stalls were set up through the streets, with thousands of people hunting for bargains.

A spokesman for Jumble Trail said: “As well as being a great way to bring communities together to meet up, mix and raise money within a relaxed, street party atmosphere, the trails are also a fantastic opportunity for Londoners to re-use and pass on unwanted items that would otherwise end up in landfill.”

Recent data shows only one third of waste in London is recycled each year, with 46,700 tonnes sent to landfill.
