A beleaguered Islington School that has suffered a litany of problems in recent years has completed a remarkable turnaround after being named “good” by Ofsted.
Canonbury Primary School, in Canonbury Road, Canonbury, was afflicted by a series of indignities, including a former headmaster being sacked for watching pornography and a former teacher dying on the eve of his trial for alleged child sex offences,
The school had been languishing in special measures, but after an inspection in May, they have been rated as good by the watchdog.
Matt Britt, who took charge of the school two weeks before the special measures assessment, said: “Canonbury is a great school, with a dedicated staff team and uniquely talented children. We have created a team of non-class based senior teachers, who have supported learning across the school and through this leadership support we have ensured that every member of staff knows how to make the best provision for each and every child.
“Of all the achievements this year I have been most proud of our commitment to deliver success for every child no matter what their race, background or ability”
