A young man’s suicide on New Year’s Day was a tragic bolt from the blue for his family, an inquest heard this week.

Tarik Clarke’s family had no idea the keen video gamer was struggling to cope before he took his own life.

His mum and brother found him hanged at the their home in Corinne Road, Tufnell Park, on the morning of January 1.

Brother Talib told St Pancras Coroner’s Court on Tuesday: “I saw him everyday living under the same roof and to me he seemed fine.

“He liked to play a lot of games and would always talk to me about new games.

“He did have friends and now and then would go out with his friends. I didn’t really see any problems.”

The inquest heard Mr Clarke, 23, stayed in on New Year’s Eve and his body was found by his mother the next morning, after she went to his room thinking he had slept in.

Coroner Selena Lynch said Mr Clarke was treated for depression when he was a child and once spoke of suicidal thoughts, but it seemed as though he had long overcome that episode.

She said: “He appeared to be a quiet young man who enjoyed gaming, but there was something there he was not able to talk about.

“I’m sure that he killed himself and intended to kill himself.”
