More than a quarter of sitting Labour councillors in Islington will not contest their seats at next year’s local elections.

Twelve members will step aside ahead of the vote on May 3, most of which will have served just one term since being elected in 2014.

Junction’s Tim Nicholls, Bunhills Robert Khan, Mildmay’s Olly Parker, Clerkenwell’s Raphael Andrews, James Court and Alice Donovan-Hart, Canonbury’s Alex Diner, St George’s Nick Ward, Highbury West’s Richard Greening, Caledonian’s Rupert Perry and St Peter’s Gary Doolan will all step down.

Cllr Jean-Roger Kaseki cannot apply to stand as he is suspended from the party. He was cleared of accusations of domestic abuse earlier this year.

Replacement candidates have not yet been finalised but are expected to be in place by the end of October.
