More than 7,300 people in Islington were claiming unemployment benefits last month.
It’s a leap of more than 500 compared to February of this year and there were just 724 unfilled vacancies at the Jobcentre when the figures were compiled by the Office for National Statistics.
In July, 3,055 of those on Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) had been out of work for at least six months and in total there were 4,668 men claiming and 2,938 women.
There were 1,755 claimants in the 18 to 24 category, 4,400 25 to 49-year-olds and 1,105 aged between 50 and 64.
