Uninsured drivers were targeted as 35 cops swooped on vehicles as part of borough–wide operation Cubo.

A total of 12 cars were seized, including one high value convertible Mercedes worth around 40,000 from new, that had no insurance.

Three people were arrested for drugs, possession and fraud.

Police say uninsured drivers are more likely to be involved in criminal activity, five times more likely to be involved in crashes and the cars are less likely to be road-worthy.

Inspector Steve Lewington, who led the operation, said: “This is one of the many tactics we are using to disrupt criminal activity. We aim to continue carrying out operations throughout the year to disrupt criminal activity and remove uninsured cars from the streets of Islington.”
