Up to 20 traffic lights went down along a busy road after a collision between a bus and a transit van on Friday.

A number 38 bus and a white van collided with each other and a pedestrian crossing near the junction of Essex Road and Upper Street, Islington, at about 2.45pm.

A 43-year-old man, thought to be the driver of the van, was rushed to University College Hospital with facial injuries.

The collision knocked out 15 to 20 traffic lights in the surrounding area, which were out for a number of hours as Transport for London worked to fix them.

Nasreen Halim, 31, who was in the area, said: “Everyone looked really shocked and an ambulance came straight away so someone must have been hurt. I hope the drivers are OK.”
