Thank you for your piece (Gazette, December 9) about Islington Council’s agreement to investigate making the area around Angel and Upper Street a “saturation zone”.
Following complaints from residents over the summer, I launched my “Enough is Enough” campaign. The petition calls on the council to limit the future number of late-night bars due to their impact on local residents and anti-social behaviour. The petition has attracted hundreds of signatures.
Liberal Democrats presented the petition to the last meeting of the council and they agreed to investigate the issue. Residents can still sign the petition on this site:http://campaigns.libdems.org.uk/upperstsaturation
We all know that Angel, Upper Street and Essex Road are great places to visit and relax. As a result they attract thousands of visitors every weekend. But they are also residential areas and the volume of pubs, bars and restaurants in such small areas has a significant impact on local residents and anti-social behaviour.
Many residents have told me that “Enough is Enough” and I am pleased the council has listened. – Councillor Susan Buchanan, Liberal Democrat, St Mary’s ward, Town Hall, Upper Street, N1.
