A former sex-shop owner in Holloway Road is helping bereaved families get rid of unwanted pornography.

Webuyanyporn.com, set up by the owners of exotic literature shop Ram Books to collect more stock, has been inundated with calls from loved ones trying to off-load erotica left behind by the deceased.

Owner of the new business Dave, 55, who ran a sex shop in Holloway Road for 30 years, said that in the nine months since setting up his website his eyes have been opened to a new complication in the grieving process.

“It was started to collect more stock but now I’m getting lots of calls from people with old porn that they don’t know how to get rid of.” he said.

“They call and say ‘my grandfather has just died, my dad’s just died, my uncles just died – and I’ve found all these old magazines’.

“I recently had a woman come in, her father had died and they found some magazines. They weren’t in great condition so they weren’t of any great interest to me.

“She asked me to destroy them. She was just happy that she could give them to someone to destroy and now worry about them ending up in the wrong hands.”

The surprise demand for this kind of service has lead to Dave tapering his website to these needs, advertising themselves as “specialist house clearance agents”, experts in “discrete removals.

We Buy and Porn even boasts about having its own “on site shredder for discrete destructions”, for those items that aren’t in good enough condition to sell.

“We give a fair price for everything,” said Dave.

“Everybody I’ve purchased books and magazines off goes away very happy. Some of the magazines are very collectable.

“It’s not like they’re walking in to a junk shop. I can give them the best price for everything because I’ve got the contacts and the market to get the best price.

“I’ve probably got stock from every era of porn from the 50s upwards. Some of the Harrison Marks stuff can fetch about £50 for one magazine.”

We Buy and Porn is a separate business from Ram Books, which operates a closed door policy.
