SHIRLEY Franklin has criticised the Liberal Democrats for not the going to a protest outside Whitehall organised by the Defend the Whittington Coalition.

I would like to point out to Ms Franklin and your readers that the Liberal Democrats have already taken our protests to Whitehall months ago. Local Liberal Democrat campaigners took a petition signed by thousands of local residents to Downing Street before taking our protests to the Department of Health back in February.

Your readers can see pictures of Bridget Fox and Lynne Featherstone, MP for Hornsey and wood Green, handing in the petition at our website: http://www.islington-libdems.org.uk/

We are fully prepared to continue to fight to save The Whittington if we need to, but the Government has not changed its initial position that the closure of The Whittington should be put on hold, so I don't see the need to protest outside Whitehall unless that changes. - Councillor Terry Stacy, Liberal Democrat Group Leader, Liberal Democrat member for Highbury East, Islington Council, Town Hall, Upper Street, N1.
