With his team humiliated 3-0 by a rampant Crystal Palace side at Selhurst Park Arsene Wenger refused to be drawn on the majority of travelling fans calling for his head during the second half – calling it ‘inconvenient’ to talk about his future this evening.

Wenger chose to ignore most of the 3,000 Arsenal fans packed in the away end singing loudly about wanting him to leave the club he has ruled for more than two decades – after Palace routed the visitors in comprehensive fashion.

A first half goal from former Spurs man Andros Townsend followed by a second half strike from Yohan Cabaye and a penalty converted by Luka Milivojevic after Emi Martinez made contact with Townsend saw the Gunners humiliated.

Yet a tired and drawn looking Wenger insisted his team had created chances – in direct contrast to what many observers and supporters thought had happened.

He said: “Overall we created many dangerous situation but we couldn’t score. I wouldn’t say my team [downed tools].”

When pressed on away fans singing: ‘Arsene Wenger/We want you to go’ he replied: “I want the fans to support the team. They are disappointed and I can understand that. It is understandable they are disappointed – but we played with a desire to win the game tonight.”

However his insistence his team played well fell on deaf ears as the evidence at Selhurst Park was that they were outplayed, outfought and outthought – and showed very little appetite for the fight, especially in the second half when a rampant Palace ran away with the game.

But again Wenger refused to be drawn on his future saying: “Honestly I am disappointed tonight but it is inconvenient to speak about me tonight”.
