News is breaking that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has agreed a new 24 month deal which will keep him at the club for another two years.

According to the BBC’s David Ornstein Wenger has extended his 21-year reign at the club.

The long-serving Frenchman met with club owner Stan Kroenke yesterday to discuss his future, with the decision then relayed to directors as a board meeting earlier today.

As the Islington Gazette reported the club will make an official statement tomorrow.

Arsenal beat the Premier League champions Chelsea 2-1 at Wembley on Saturday to lift the FA Cup for a club record 13th time – with Wenger victorious in the world’s oldest knockout tournament, triumphing for a record seventh time.

Speaking after the match on Saturday: “I have played until the end of my contract, which is today [Saturday]. I have shown you I have exactly the same commitment.”

He also pointedly referred to the criticism from many fans by saying: “Once the game starts you have to support your team.

“Am I the right man to take Arsenal further? It’s not about popularity it’s about competence.”

With around 40,000 season ticket holders the club will be closely monitoring the number of renewals after today’s news.
