Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger felt his side were wrongly denied a goal during their 1-0 defeat at Stoke City.

Club record signing Alexandre Lacazette was adjudged to have been offside in the second half of the Premier League contest.

And the visitors saw several other chances go to waste as they dominated posession, but could not find the net, one week on from their thrilling 4-3 win over Leicester.

“I believe we scored a very regular goal that was given offside but was not offside,” said Wenger.

“It is not offside, it is a very easy decision.

“It was a very frustrating evening because we had plenty of chances to score but we did not score. And on top of that we knew it was important not to make a defensive mistake, and then at the start of the second half we were sluggish and we paid a price.”

Stoke boss Mark Hughes reckons new signing Jese has already made his mark in the Premier League after firing his side to victory over the Gunners.

The striker, who arrived on loan from Paris St Germain earlier this week, had a dream debut, scoring the winner in the second half as Stoke got up and running for the season.

Hughes told BT Sport 1: “It was a fantastic finish from Jese. Everyone has seen what he is going to bring to Stoke and to the Premier League.

“He is an elite player, one that changes games for teams, and we are delighted that he is here.

“I saw glimpses in training and I knew that if we could get him on the pitch and give him moments and opportunities to show what he can do then he would be devastating.

“He is not up to speed yet. He has only had one proper training session with us and I think that shows how professional he is.

“He has come in and wanted to make an impression on the Premier League and I think he has enjoyed himself.”
