To celebrate the month of love, a campaign on Twitter has got people revealing what they heart about the borough of Islington.

The Rowan Arts Project, Islington Chamber of Commerce and Creative Islington got the Tweets started to coincide with Valentine’s Day last week and it has been gaining momentum since.

Using the hashtag #loveislington, residents and businesses – as well as any other Islington fans – have been taking to the social networking site to say why they love the area. Reporter Andr Langlois headed out to ask the person on the street the same question.

Jody Connelly, 26, of Whitecross Street, St. Luke’s, said: “I’ve lived here all my life. All the little boutiques on Upper Street and the food market make the area a great place to be. I love that there’s something for everyone.”

Marlon Mellish, 22, of Barnsbury Street, Barnsbury, a boxer and gym instructor, said: “It can seem that there’s not much to do for youngsters but I found Times ABC boxing club here. It got me into the sport and makes me ambitious.”

Brad Webb, 20, of Hornsey Road, Holloway, a media and sociology student, said: “Upper Street’s a great area to go out on a Saturday night. It’s quite expensive but there are lots of cool little places, great places to hook up, meet people. In the summer the parks are all really lively too.”

Rachel Bala, 28, of Thornhill Road, Barnsbury, who is about to train as a teacher, said: “I’ve lived here for four years and there is a real village feel to the place. There are lots of really cool, individual bars and restaurants.”

Gatie Swaya, 21, of Laycock Street, Islington, a sports coach, said: “It’s quite quiet in this area, not too rough and safer than lots of places.”

Adele Durge, 32, a nurse from Essex visiting Islington, said: “It’s my favourite part of London. I like that it’s quite bohemian and stylish but it’s not pretentious. There are lots of young designers and individual, independent shops.”

Camilla Fletcher, of Florence Street, Islington, a philanthropy manager, said: “The whole place is vibrant, lively and multicultural. There are lots of great theatres. I also love the architecture. If you look up above the shops there are some amazing buildings to be found.”
