Arsenal 2 Manchester City 2

Jack Wilshere scored one goal and set up the other as Arsenal came from behind to share the points with the champions at Emirates Stadium.

Sergio Aguero fired City ahead in the first-half, but Wilshere levelled with a classy finish just after the hour and then teed up Alexis Sanchez to make it 2-1 on the volley.

However, the Gunners had to settle for their third draw in four Premier League games when Martin DeMichelis headed City’s equaliser seven minutes from time.

Arsenal made all the early running, with Aaron Ramsey and Sanchez both forcing saves from Joe Hart and new arrival Danny Welbeck sliding a shot on the turn just wide.

And the crowd were on their feet when a stray pass from Fernandinho ran through to Welbeck, who chipped Hart – only for the ball to strike the far post and rebound into the hands of the grateful goalkeeper.

It took City 26 minutes to register a serious threat to the home goal as James Milner played a one-two with Aguero and sent a shot whistling over the bar.

However, the visitors opened the scoring on the counter-attack just two minutes later when Jesus Navas scampered after a loose ball on the right and crossed for Aguero to sweep home first time.

City might have gone 2-0 up soon afterwards after another move down the right breached the Gunners’ defence and Pablo Zabaleta found David Silva, who was denied by the leg of Wojciech Szczesny.

Arsenal were unable to find a way back into the game before half-time, although Mesut Ozil speared a half-chance into the stand after Sanchez’s free-kick was half-cleared.

City obligingly handed the home supporters an outlet for their frustration in the second half, sending on former Gunner Samir Nasri to a round of jeers.

It was another ex-Arsenal man, Gael Clichy, who nearly inflicted a killer blow on his old club, exchanging passes with Silva and lobbing Szczesny, but the ball drifted away from the unguarded net.

But, rather like the opening goal, the equaliser arrived against the run of play when Sanchez and Ramsey combined to play in Wilshere, who teed the ball up on his left foot and chipped it deftly over Hart with his right.

At the other end, Aguero, Navas and Nasri all tested Szczesny – but the momentum was in the Gunners’ favour and they capitalised by taking the lead in the 74th minute.

A cross from the right was headed out by Vincent Kompany and Wilshere reached it first, nodding the ball into the path of Sanchez, who unleashed a sweet right-foot volley into the top corner.

But the Gunners were forced into a change after Mathieu Debuchy landed awkwardly and they still seemed to be adjusting when DeMichelis headed City level from a corner.

And there were two late scares for Arsenal, first as Laurent Koscielny’s interception looped over Szczesny and hit the post, and then a Nasri effort that found the net but was ruled out for offside.

Arsenal: Szczesny; Debuchy (Chambers 81), Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal; Flamini (Arteta 90); Sanchez, Ramsey, Wilshere, Ozil; Welbeck (Oxlade-Chamberlain 87).
