Sarah Martin, a key worker, told the Gazette: “I was on my way to work [at about 6.40am] this morning when I noticed at least 10 police cars and their occupants and around 15 prison officers near to the entrance to the prison.

“At that point I could see a person on a stretcher coming from behind the prison walls who appeared to have had their clothes removed and was covered by a foil blanket being placed into the ambulance. They didn’t look too good from what I could see.”
