The first ever X Factor winner lit up the streets and the crowds when he opened the N1 Centre Christmas lights on Thursday (25).
Steve Brookstein took to the stage at the shopping centre in Parkfield Street, Islington, to perform his new charity Christmas single Don’t Give Up before switching on the Christmas lights giving Islington that winter-wonderland feeling.
The singer teamed up with jazz singer and partner Eileen Hunter for his new single, a cover of Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush’s original ballad, which he performed along with other soul classics to crowds brave enough to bare the cold.
Despite this year’s X Factor-fever, Brookstein still holds the record for the highest number of public votes – receiving six million when he won in 2004.
Don’t Give Up goes on sale on December 13 with all profits going to regional homeless charities across the UK.
