Excessive TV licence

THE annual TV licence fee is grossly excessive. No wonder you report the detection of increasing numbers of TV licence dodgers (Gazette, August 18). It's not a question of can't pay, won't pay.

THE annual TV licence fee is grossly excessive. No wonder you report the detection of increasing numbers of TV licence dodgers (Gazette, August 18). It's not a question of can't pay, won't pay. New 19-inch and 22-inch TV Combis are on sale for £149, a fraction more than they cost to licence.

And when it comes to Bank Holiday weekends, not one terrestrial channel is prepared to have a quality late night programme. So, there are many reasons for TV licence evasion! - Jim Redmond, Mornington Crescent, NW1.
