Post office misses business chances

PUBLISHED: 11:16 06 February 2008 | UPDATED: 10:15 22 July 2010

CAN this really be happening? I have heard that the Post Office is closing the Essex Road branch. I don't own a car, I walk everywhere and often have heavy parcels to post.

All the pensioners nearby depend on the post office. Why doesn't the Post Office diversify and sell interesting gifts and offer a useful packing service? Why not open a cafe inside that offers drinks and snacks to everyone in the line? What about entertainers to keep up the spirits of the people in the long queues?

Maybe they could show full-length movies instead of those repetitive helpful ads.

If the Post Office does not want to enter such a commercial venture then what about some gym instructors encouraging simple exercises to keep fit?

It would certainly be useful to have teams of stress management consultants offering neck massage and counselling services offering advice on bad debts and money management.

This would simultaneously lower the national debt and ease the burden of the health services. Come on, let's cheer up Britain. - Alison Winfield-Chislett, Northchurch Road, N1.
