I WOULD like to congratulate all of Islington's students and teachers on this year's excellent A-level results. With a marked improvement on last year's results, all their hard work has paid off.

The Liberal Democrats made education a priority when we ran Islington Council and that led to results improving year on year. It's good to see this progress has continued but there is still a long way to go.

Last time Labour ran the council education services got so bad that their own Labour Government insisted that they bring someone else in to run them.

The new Labour administration is going back to its old habits and seems to be more concerned about their pet projects than local children's education. - Councillor Paula Belford, Liberal Democrat member for Canonbury, Islington Council, Town Hall, Upper Street, N1.
