What happened to centre service?

PUBLISHED: 17:34 30 March 2011

WHY is it not “service as usual” as promised at MIND’s Ashley Road Centre after all the fuss last year over its threatened closure?

This former oasis of calm still has the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bi, trans) group on Tuesday and Women’s Day Thursday – but no longer is it a drop-in haven for the Hoi Polloi the rest of the working week, with its wonderful food and easy-going atmosphere.

The arts facilities are gone and the garden is still lovely. Nowadays it is a Specialist Wellness Centre or some such – which it was anyway.

The whole notion, or so I believed, was that after refurbishment, the place would return to its original purpose – but this appears not so. – Gerard Greene, Evershot Road, N4.
