A couple of new contenders enter the fray just before deadline

Two new Islington candidates have been announced for the general election next month.

Their nominations come just ahead of tomorrow’s deadline.

Details of the pair are below:

Bill Martin, Socialist Party candidate for Islington North

Age: 38

Address: Archway

Marital status: Single

Children: None

Interests outside politics: Rugby league

Current job: Librarian

Any directorships/ other financial interests: Personal savings, occupational pension.

What is your local connection to the area: Lived in Tufnell Park/Archway for about 12 years.

If I am elected, the first thing I will do is: It’s the people who vote for the Socialist Party who are making the promise to struggle to abolish capitalism.

I’d try and hold them to that.

Jar Kirton, drug-reform party CISTA candidate for Islington South and Finsbury

Age: 21

Address: Pentonville Road, Islington

Marital status: Self Love

Children: None

Interests outside politics: Former World and European karate champion, photography, holistic healing therapies

Current job: Model at Select Model Management

Any directorships/ other financial interests: Community projects

What is your local connection to the area? I was born at Whittington Hospital and I have always lived in Islington, I grew up on the Elthorne Estate

If I am elected, the first thing I will do is: Campaign vigorously for a Royal Commission on a review of the UK’s drug laws. My main motivation stems from my ambition to stop money from the cannabis market flowing into the hands of organised criminal gangs.
