The Shepherd’s Cot club are on the verge of being relegated after losing to Brondesbury last time out

Highgate head to Teddington on Saturday in the Middlesex County League Premier Division in need of a victory.

Muz Ali’s side are bottom on 29 points and only have three games left to try and salvage the greatest of great escapes.

Eight-placed Twickenham have 55 points – 26 ahead of Highgate, so the Shepherd’s Cot club know only a win this weekend will keep alive their faint hopes of survival.

Last Saturday they lost by four wickets at home to fellow relegation rivals Brondesbury in a real 20-pointer.

Batting first, Highgate got off to a great start with Shane McNamara hitting 53 at the top of the order and Hasnain Ali adding 37.

They collapsed, however, and went from 120-1 to 178-9 and only 23 by number 10 Misem Ali Syed Zaidi and 16 not out by last man Ed Foster helped the hosts reach 213.

In reply, Brondesbury got home with 14 balls left with Anshuman Rath hitting 117*.

Zaidi’s 2-39 and Foster’s 2-42 ended up as scant consolation for Highgate, but they will seek a response this weekend.
