Birthday girl Natasha ‘Nutty’ Rhoden maintained her unbeaten record with a polished performance against Anelle Massey on Islington BC’s open show at the Boston Dome.

Rhoden boxed well throughout three rounds against the Sheerness ABC fighter, producing smart long-range punches and the occasional body shot to claim her third straight win on a unanimous decision.

Overall, there were a total of 14 contests in front of a crowd of over 350 at the Tufnell Park venue, with Reggie Hagland making a successful debut as Islington matchmaker.

The show began with skills bouts for two of Islington’s younger members – Jack Boylan, 11, who boxed Billy Reading (Small Holdings) and 10-year-old Prince Dubois, who lined up against Tony McDonagh (Small Holdings).

The first competitive bout of the evening was a lively one as the home club’s Lucy Turner, 11, made her debut against Leonie Rumble (Rumbles Boxing Academy).

Rumble found her range first with some good southpaw combinations and, although the Islington girl landed some eye-catching right-hand shots, she was kept at bay in the final round and a split decision went against her.

Ernie Swinhoe, 12, was the Hazellville Road club’s first winner on the night, with his counter-punching at range proving decisive as he triumphed by unanimous decision against Patrick McDonagh (Finchley ABC).

Islington’s Tommy Kerrigan returned to the ring after an eight-month absence and began well despite boxing on the retreat against a bigger opponent, Jake Callingham (Hayes ABC).

However, Callingham fought back in the second round and his superior work-rate tilted the contest in his favour, gaining a split decision after Kerrigan received a standing eight-count.

A trio of Islington debutants followed that contest, with 16-year-old Marlon Kizito catching the eye as he produced a commanding display and some excellent combinations to take a unanimous decision against experienced opponent Liam Dyer (Tottenham & Enfield ABC).

Senior boxer Michael Antoniou had the better of the early exchanges against Tomasz Madeja (Haringey Police ABC), but faded later and lost a unanimous decision.

Islington’s Simon Collins paid the price for his lack of scoring punches as he dropped a unanimous decision to Timon Asiama (Cuban Boxing Academy, Hanwell).

Kenyon ‘Sherman’ Reid recorded his fourth straight victory against strong puncher Nathan Wilson (Small Holdings ABC), edging a close split decision despite struggling to land many combinations.

Islington captain Jeff Ofori earned the boxer of the night award after taking a unanimous decision in a rematch of his recent London Development Championship clash with Olly Lee (Marvels Lane ABC).

Ofori gained his rhythm after a slow opening round and landed some eye-catching combinations before a series of heavy right uppercuts forced Lee to take a standing count in the closing stages.

Islington’s Justyn Page-Allen turned in a classy performance against Billy English (Small Holdings ABC), boxing behind two-handed attacks and switching from head to body as he took a deserved unanimous decision.

Improving heavyweight Mateusz Szczepkowski overturned his recent loss to Louis Lye (Hayes ABC), with strong right hands and a consistent jab securing a unanimous decision for the Islington boxer.
