Highbury Grove School’s Under-13 girls’ team held their nerve to win the borough schools’ tournament in a gripping climax against Holloway.
The Highbury Grove girls, who were defending champions and hosts of the competition, won all their games en route to the final, where they were pushed all the way by their opponents.
Juliana Nguyen triumphed in her singles match, but Zuzanna Marciniak narrowly lost out, which meant Highbury Grove’s hopes rested on the shoulders of Alfrida Peposhi and Faith Eyoma in the doubles match.
The pair worked hard, but they had to endure seven deuces in their final game before a shot from Eyoma clipped the top of the net and landed on the other side to clinch a dramatic victory.
