Islington & Camden Under-14s fought back from a goal down to beat Harrow 2-1 and clinch their long-awaited first win of the season.

It looked as if the home side’s luck might be out again at St Aloysius’ College as they fell behind in the first half and also lost their goalkeeper with a broken nose.

But captain Albert Hicks laid the ball off for Frankie Scott to drive home the equaliser from the edge of the box and, with 10 minutes remaining, Joe Johnson finished off a neat team move to seal victory.

“We really have improved – that win’s definitely been coming,” said I&C manager John Simon. “It was a high-level performance, particularly from Albert, who’s been solid every week and led us well.”

Substitute Samuel Ababio struck a brace to earn Camden & Islington Under-13s a point as they drew 3-3 at Harrow in the Compton Cup.

I&C played the better football for much of the game and took the lead in the eighth minute with a goal from the outstanding Franklin Domi.

However, the visitors’ failure to deal with aerial balls into the box seemed likely to prove costly as they conceded three times.

But I&C were saved by the introduction of Ababio, who reduced the deficit before snatching an equaliser just three minutes from time.

Romeo Akinola’s double was not enough as Islington & Camden’s threadbare Under-15 side went down 6-3 to Harrow in the Star Shield.

Injury and unavailability meant I&C had to play without substitutes, but the 11 boys who started the game shaded the early stages, with Zak Miles and Sang Pierre Gomez both going close.

But the visitors paid for two defensive lapses in quick succession, with a far-post volley and a free header from a corner leaving them 2-0 down at half-time.

I&C had an opportunity to hit back early in the second half when they were awarded a penalty for handball, but Joe White’s low spot-kick was superbly saved.

Akinola did reduce the deficit, collecting a through ball from Miles and firing into the bottom corner – only for Harrow to score two more goals with half-volleys that sailed over goalkeeper Edgar Paxi-Cato.

Islington & Camden scored again when Gomez crossed for White, whose header was saved to leave Akinola with a tap-in, but the home side scored their fifth from the spot following a trip by Paxi-Cato.

Miles cracked home a crisp left-foot strike to make it 5-3 before Harrow completed the scoring with a cross-cum-shot that crept inside the far post.

Islington & Camden manager Jim de Garis said: “It was a wonderful game of open, attacking football and thrills and spills. Unfortunately a few more thrills went Harrow’s way.”
