Former Arsenal midfielder and ‘Invincible’ Edu is convinced the Emirates can host the best events in the land.

Brazil play Uruguay at the home of the Gunners on November 16 and Edu, who played 79 times for the club and and was a key cog in Arsène Wenger’s 2004 Premier League winning side, has called on Gunners’ fans to get involved.

Edu, who played 15 times for Brazil, is helping to raise awareness of the fixture – a rare opportunity for English football fans to watch the likes of Neymar, Luis Suarez and current Gunner Lucas Torreira on English soil.

Edu spent four years in North London with Wenger’s men and still looks back fondly on his trophy-filled career with the Gunners.

“It will be a great pleasure to go back to the Emirates, a stadium that’s home to a club I’m really fond of,” said Edu.

“I had the opportunity to play for many years with Arsenal and win some important titles. Without a doubt it will be a pleasure to see the red and white colours of Arsenal again in a stadium that is increasingly becoming more important in the world.

“It’s not the first time we (Brazil) are playing there. It will be a great pleasure. I remember well that I played my last game alongside great friends like Dennis Bergkamp and other great athletes part of Arsenal’s history.

“It will be a great pleasure to come back again now with the Brazilian team. It will be a great honour and I will certainly remember the great moments I had with Arsenal’s supporters, and most of all at the Emirates Stadium and at Highbury too.”

Former Arsenal defender Sylvinho will also return to the Emirates with Brazil as, like Edu, he is also employed by the national team.

Sylvinho said: “In 1999 I was the first Brazilian athlete signed by Arsenal. When I got there, it was very clear to me it was a great challenge and a great responsibility to break some barriers and play in a club as important as Arsenal.

“I was happy, and it was a very special two-year period of my life. Now my travels around stadiums are as a staff member, which is a little different. But it will be great too, to be able to go back to a stadium, even if it’s not at Highbury, it will be very interesting.

“And I’d like to leave an invitation to all that can come and watch Brazil vs Uruguay at the Emirates stadium. You will really enjoy a great match, I have no doubt.”

Brazil take on Uruguay in an international friendly at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium on November 16 (8pm). Tickets from £30 Adult/£15 Under 16 at www.arsenal.com/brauru2018.
