Highgate Harriers Hannah Viner hopes to get the call for the European Cross-Country Championships next month after impressing at the latest British Cross Challenge at the weekend.

Viner came home in 31st place overall at Sefton Park, Liverpool in a time of 29 minutes 47 seconds, which also saw her as ninth best among under-23 athletes.

The Highgate member finished ahead of two rivals who occupied the first two places in the recent Met League fixture at Welwyn Garden City in Tamara Armoush and Vicky Pritchard, who were 35th and 59th respectively.

The 24th annual European Championships are being held in Samorin, Slovakia on December 10, while the next Cross Challenge event takes place in Antrim, Northern Ireland on January 6, with the fifth and final race at Loughborough’s Prestwold Hall on March 10.

*Darryl Davison finished fifth in the Fraternity Cup event for an understrength Highgate at Trent Park at the weekend.

Davison clocked 27 minutes exactly in a field of 122 as Barnet & District’s Alex Lepretre came home first in a time of 26.36.

And the Highgate member is hoping the club can field a strong team in the third Met League fixture of the season at Hillingdon House Farm on Saturday, having been part of their winning 12-man team last time around.

Clubmate Alex Davidson, a former Middlesex Veterans champion, finished 23rd at the Fraternity Cup in 30.24, with Chris Bailey clocking 33.32 in 59th place.

Emanuel Lumineau placed 75th in 35.17, while in the women’s Sorority Cup race, experienced Highgate veteran Louise Faherty was 12th in 35.50, pipping Kane Hinshelwood (35.36), as Catherine Airey finished 18th in 36.42.
