Islington light welterweight Amy Broadhurst is a national champion after winning the England ABA Senior Elite Championships.
Broadhurst took on Megan Reid of the Army in the final, which was held at the iconic York Hall in Bethnal Green.
The Islington prospect caused her rival plenty of problems with her southpaw stance throughout the contest.
When the final bell sounded, there was no doubt as to who the winner was, with Broadhurst winning by unanimous decision.
Broadhurst’s victory ensured the light welterweight title was won for a fourth year in a row by an Islington entrant, following in the footsteps of Cherrelle Brown.
“Honestly, the happiness is just indescribable,” said Broadhurst. “To finally add a English title to my name is a huge honour”
The 21-year-old reached this year’s final after also earning a victory by unanimous decision in her semi-final bout against Xian Blackman-Price from Heart of Portsmouth.
Broadhurst’s campaign for national glory began in the quarter-finals with a success by split decision over Bury rival Sarah Dunne.
The 21-year-old, who hails from Dundalk, has already had plenty of success in 2018, having won the Under-22 Irish National Championships.
Fellow Islington prospect Shannon Courtenay, meanwhile, was beaten in the semi-finals of the lightweight category at the Senior Elite Championships.
Courtenay reached the final four after beating Wellington’s Jade Pearce, but the Islington hope was beaten herself by eventual champion Hannah Robinson of Birtley.
Shaun Thomas was another beaten by an eventual champion, losing to Mark Chamberlain of Team Wiseman in his national quarter-final.
*Former Islington captain Aarron Morgan goes in search of his 14th victory in the pro ranks this Saturday.
The super welterweight faces William Warburton in a six-round contest at York Hall on a busy bill organised by Mickey Helliet.
Morgan was last in action in March when he recorded a points victory over Victor Edagha at the Brentwood Centre.
The 30-year-old’s only defeat since turning pro in 2013 came in May 2017 when he was stopped by Joe Pigford in their bout at the Copper Box in Stratford.
