Islington BC prospects Roxanne Fraser and Ernie Swinhoe began their respective Junior and Junior Cadet Championships campaigns with weigh-ins this week.

Fraser will compete in the 50kg and is already through to the national stages of the competition having received a bye, with her quarter-final due to take place in mid-March.

Swinhoe, meanwhile, will fight in the 63kg junior category and will compete in the semi-finals of the London regional event this weekend.

Fellow Islington youngster Connor Daly, meanwhile, suffered disappointment in his efforts to win the England Boxing National Youth Championships.

Competing in the under-52kg category, Daly came up against Hunslet rival Hope Price in the quarter-finals.

There were moments of success for Daly, but it wasn’t enough against the slick southpaw Price, who won by unanimous decision.

Daly can hold his head high, though, with Price later going on to win the under-52kg title.

Islington youngster Leo Antell was in action in club colours at an open show hosted by Earlsfield ABC.

Antell was making his debut and made sure it was one to remember, recording a unanimous victory over home hope Andrew Corbyn.

The Islington prospect boxed well throughout, listening intently to the instructions from his corner.

Club mate Abdullah Kerr, took part in his first skills contest on show hosted by White Hart Lane against home prospect Ryan O’Connor.

Disappointment, though, was to follow as for fellow Islington youngster Alfie Cain on the same show.

Cain was all geared up to compete on the show, but suffered the disappointment of his scheduled opponent withdrawing.

Islington also had several junior boxers take part in an inter-club sparring event at Five Star ABC.

All the boys Islington hopes who took part performed well and gained valuable experience from the sparring session.

It was another fine week of displays for all of the youngsters who took part in events for Islington in club colours.

And with the results recorded, it certainly looks like the future is bright for all at Islington BC.
