Islington BC teenager Daniel Dubois will box for Great Britain on Thursday for the first time since he joined the national podium squad.

The 17-year-old super-heavyweight, who is a double national champion and now trains as a full-time boxer, is competing at the Brandenburg Cup in Germany.

Dubois also took part in the Brandenburg competition 18 months ago, when he overcame Temirlan Kabiyev of Kazakhstan to secure the gold medal.

The Islington fighter will be joined in the tournament by Times ABC middleweight Zak Chelli, who was a gold medallist at the GB Youth Three Nations Championship earlier this year.

Islington’s Callum Angel-Taylor was unlucky to miss out in the quarter-finals of the London Junior Development Championships, which got under way on Sunday.

The 14-year-old was up against Mohammad Chowdhary (East London BA) in the Class A Under-57kg category at Feltham Community College and made a bright start with overhand attacks to head and body.

That put Chowdhary on the back foot, but he responded in the second round with a series of single straight shots and the Islington boy’s lack of fitness began to show.

Although Angel-Taylor produced the more eye-catching shots in the final round, his opponent’s inside work and stamina earned him the verdict from the ringside judges.

The Hazellville Road club could enter up to 11 boxers (male and female) when the senior championships start at the beginning of next month.
