Islington Boxing Club's Connor Daly and Ruhel Miah both struck gold at the annual Celtic Box Cup in Dungarvan, Ireland.

Miah beat Craig Morgan (Neilstown BC) in his Class B, under-56kg semi-final on Saturday, dictating the pace with rapid combinations.

Morgan couldn’t keep up with the Islington boxer, who landed punches to the head and body which forced standing eight counts in the second and thirds round.

And Miah went on to beat Raymond Collins (Trojan BC) in the final courtesy of a unanimous decision, similar to his earlier bout.

After putting his rival down in the first round, Miah ewnt through the gears and showed better boxing skills to earn his points win.

Daly had a straight final against Billy Unsworth (Shotton ABC) and needed a different approach against the Welsh champion.

The Islington member came out firing in his southpaw stance, pushing his rival back and landing straight lefts to the body and hooks to the head to win a 4-1 split decision.

Islington’s other entrant, Ewan Jenkins, just missed out on a final place in the senior elite, under-60kg category.

Jenkins made a slow start against Charlie Doig (St Francis ABC), allowing his opponent to pin him on the back foot.

And although he landed a couple of good right hands and left hooks in the first round, Jenkins was roughed up in the second and, after a tight last round, he lost a 3-2 split decision.

All three boys are set to compete in the National Association of Boys & Girls Club Championships next month.
