Coach warns London Blitz not to be complacent for key European clash in Madrid

London Blitz head coach Mark Moss believes his side are underdogs as they prepare for this weekend’s crucial European clash with Madrid Osos Rivas.
Blitz travel to the Spanish capital in good heart following their tense 27-21 win over Argonautes Aix-en-Provence earlier this month – and another victory on Saturday would seal their place in the IFAF Champions League semi-finals.
But Moss has warned against any hint of complacency as the Finsbury Park side train ahead of their trip to Madrid.
He said: “Even though we beat the Argonautes and they had previously beat Osos Rivas, to me the Spaniards must start as slight favourites.
“They are at home, they are used to playing in the heat and they appear to have rested some starters and imports in their last game. We know that only our very best will do in this game.
“We have been on the outside in Europe for the last couple of years, but making the final four would put us right back up there with the best. It would be huge for not only us but for British football.”
If the Blitz triumph, they will qualify for the final four weekend, which takes place in Belgrade in July.
London Blitz’s B team recorded their first shut-out as they overcame Ipswich Cardinals with a confident 48-0 win in their third game of the season.
Wide receiver Batuala Beraud recorded three touchdowns, while running backs Dan Asare and Kaylind Grant reached the end zone once each for the team’s first rushing touchdown of the campaign.
Kicker David Ndede landed several successful two-point conversions, but there was a blow for offensive lineman Chris Hooley, who fractured his wrist and is expected to miss the rest of the season.
However, it was a good day for Blitz’s Under-17 team, who completed a hat-trick of wins in a three-game tournament held on their home field at Finsbury Park.
Kenny Blake’s side defeated Hertfordshire Cheetahs 38-6, Colchester Gladiators 51-0 and Essex Spartans 28-6.
