COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP: Middlesex rally against Warwickshire to lead by 49 runs with nine wickets remaining at tea on day two

Middlesex lead by 49 runs after they rallied against Warwickshire to reach 89-1 at tea on day two of their County Championship Division Two at a stifling Lord’s on Monday afternoon.

Nick Gubbins (33*) and Steven Eskinazi (38*) put on a partnership of 71 after Paul Stirling was out for 16 with the score 18-1.

The powerful Ulsterman was the first red-ball wicket of all-rounder Chris Woakes summer after Jonathan Trott snaffled a chance.

Earlier the impressive Will Rhodes reached his second first class hundred of the season with a disciplined knock of 118 off 239 balls before he offered a caught and bowled chance to the tireless James Harris who ended the innings with figures of 4-84.

Wily stalwart Tim Murtagh took 3-43 with Ollie Rayner chipping in with 2-55 as the visitors were bowled out for 276, a lead of 40 at the change of innings.
