Cumberland Netball Club dug deep to claim a 65-61 win over Birmingham club Linden in their latest Premier League outing at the weekend.

The visitors started well to build a 21-13 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Linden hit back to cut the gap to four.

Kira Rothwell, an England under-19 international set to compete for London Pulse in the Vitality Netball Super League in 2019, took the most valuable player award for her 100 per cent shooting record of 21 goals from 21 attempts in the first half.

Coach Polini Langi said: “I was proud of how the team held onto the lead under immense pressure from Linden, with quality shooting and defensive hustle throughout the court.”

The win saw Cumberland maintain their hold on second place in the table on 36 points and they will be looking for a third straight win when they play Clan at their City University base on Sunday (December 16).
